Wings of Fire #5: The Brightest Night - Tui T. Sutherland

One will have the power of wings of fire . . .
Sunny has always taken the Dragonet Prophecy very seriously. If Pyrrhia's dragons need her, Clay, Tsunami, Glory, and Starflight to end the war, she's ready to try. She even has some good ideas on how to do it, if anyone would listen to her. But shattering news from Morrowseer has shaken Sunny's faith in their destiny. Is it possible for anyone to end this terrible war and choose a new SandWing queen? What if everything they've been through was for nothing? Buried secrets, deadly surprises, and an unexpected side to scavengers are all waiting for her in the shifting sands of the desert, where Sunny must decide once and for all: Is her destiny already written? Or can five dragonets change their fate and save the world . . . the way they choose?

Wings of Fire #5: The Brightest Night - Tui T. Sutherland

MY THOUGHTS ON IT:

I loved this book. As I love all Wings of Fire books. There are little problems that lead up to the big one, and each "little" problem makes you want to get up and tear your hair out. (Don't do that. Please.) Not because the writing is bad, no, it's quite the opposite. But it's so nerve-wracking and it makes you nervous. Tui T. Sutherland's words transport you to another world. They take you directly to the scene, make you a dragon, and let you watch it. At the end of this arc in the series, I became great friends with every single one of the characters, and let me tell you, I adore them. I love them. Each character is so unique and different from the rest, yet somehow quite similar.
Another thing - sometimes with bad characters, I feel like they're on a fence. If you keep poking them with a stick, eventually they'll fall off. (Some of the characters in this arc were like that.) When you have characters like these, it makes the reader go FSAKLFAHSICOSANCSAFOAHSFRRRRRRRRGRHGH whenever the main character does something ever-so-slightly aggravating to the on-the-fence character.
I just can't explain how much I cherish these characters. If you gave me the option to be in one of my favorite books in turn for my soul, I'd say sure in a heartbeat. Books are something magical that we can't explain. The words form a world unlike the one we like in. They create characters you love and absolutely hate.
Sunny's view of the world is also very unusual and I love it. She's very insightful and brave when she needs to be, yet she also is kind and accepting, and optimistic. The way she describes things (spoiler, do not highlight unless you've read it) and the way she decides to follow their enemies makes her view even more essential to the story.
I really hope you're considering reading Wings of Fire. A beautiful and wonderful world spiraling into destruction is waiting for you.

WHERE YOU CAN GET IT:

MY FAVORITE PART:

ATTENTION! DO NOT READ THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE FINISHED THE END OF WINGS OF FIRE BOOK 5, THE BRIGHTEST NIGHT. THIS IS A HUGE SPOILER, AND YOU WILL DEFINITELY REGRET READING IT! You've been warned.
My favorite part has to be, without a doubt, the end of this book. It's powerful and sad, but necessary. Clay has to be dug through by Peril because of the snake bite, Thorn is crowned Queen, yada yada yada. It's great!
My other favorite part is when Sunny finds out Thorn is her mom. I love that moment because it's so happy. I never suspected that would happen, but it's super cute!

RATING:

5/5, as normal! Well-deserved, as all the writing in this series! Wings of Fire: The Brightest Night earned 5 stars because I honestly can't think of anything I didn't like about it. It wasn't boring, 🐉
