Image
K0-7M0 has never had a name. Or anything you could call a life, for that matter. She lives in the humans' research facilities, all alone, until a new animal comes in. He's a dog, talkative, and very whiny. But Kozmo, as he named her, and the new dog help each other escape.  In the not-so-wonderful world outside the facility, Kozmo meets a bunch of hybrids like her. Their leader, Castor, a feisty eagle-dog. But within the blink of an eye, they're being chased. So Kozmo has to do something she's never dreamed of doing before: trust the others.

One will have the power of wings of fire . . .  Sunny has always taken the Dragonet Prophecy very seriously. But shattering news from Morrowseer has shaken Sunny's faith in their destiny. Is it possible for anyone to end this terrible war and choose a new SandWing queen? What if everything they've been through was for nothing? Buried secrets, deadly surprises, and an unexpected side to scavengers are all waiting for her in the shifting sands of the desert, where Sunny must decide once and for all: Is her destiny already written? The Unicorn Quest #1 - Kamilla Benko

Image
Claire and Sophie Marintinson did not expect to see a ladder in their Great-Aunt's old fireplace. But they did. Curiosity overtakes them and the sisters climb up, up, up into the chimney and out. But... they don't end up on the roof. Instead, they end up in Arden, a wonderful world full of magic and mystery.  But Arden is not as perfect as it seems to be. The land that was once filled with magic and unicorns is changing. For guilds of magic no longer trust one another.  As Sophie and Claire soon find out, it's now their job to save the world they have discovered.

Wings of Fire #3: The Hidden Kingdom

Image
Glory knows the dragon world is wrong about her tribe. After all, she isn't "as lazy as a RainWing" -- she isn't lazy at all! Maybe she wasn't meant to be one of the dragonets of destiny, as the older dragons constantly remind her, but Glory is sharp and her venom is deadly... except, of course, no one knows it. When the dragonets seek shelter in the rain forest, Glory is devastated to find that the treetops are full of RainWings that no dragon could ever call dangerous. They nap all day and know nothing of the rest of Pyrrhia. Worst of all, they don't realize -- or care -- that RainWings are going missing from their beautiful forest. But Glory and the dragonets are determined to find the missing dragons, even if it drags the peaceful RainWing kingdom where they never wanted to be -- in the middle of the war.

Wings of Fire #2: The Lost Heir - Tui. T. Sutherland

Image
Tsunami knows she's the heir to the SeaWing throne. She can just imagine it: all her subjects bowing to her, her father guiding her, the feeling of power in her talons. But, there is a mysterious murderer on the loose. One who somehow is killing all the queen's eggs. Why? And... is Tsunami next?

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel #1: The Alchemyst - Michael Scott

Image
The truth:  Nicholas Flamel's tomb is empty.   The legend:  Nicholas Flamel lives.    Nicholas Flamel is the greatest Alchemyst to ever live. The records show that he died in 1418, but what if he's actually been making the elixir of life for centuries?     The secrets to eternal life are hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed, and in the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it.     There is one hope. If the prophecy is true, Sophie and Josh Newman have the power to save everyone. Now they just have to learn to use it.

The Secret Series #1: The Name of this Book is a Secret - Pseudonymous Bosch

Image
Warning:  this description has not been authorized by Pseudonymous Bosch 😉 .  As much as he'd love to sing the praises of his book (he is very vain), he wouldn't want you to hear about his brave 11-year old heroes, Cass and Max-Ernest. Or about how a mysterious box of vials, the Symphony of Smells, sends them on the trail of a magician who has vanished under strange (and stinky) circumstances. And he certainly wouldn't want you to know about the hair-raising adventures that follow and the nefarious villains they face. You see, not only is the name of this book secret, the story inside is, too. For it concerns a secret. A Big Secret.

That's hardly enough.  After they find a mysterious chest in a secret room in Max's house, they sell it since they can't find a single thing in it. Alex and Max soon realize there is something in there... something that will change their lives.

The Borrowers #1 - Mary Norton

Image
Arrietty, and her parents, Pod and Homily, are borrowers. Tiny humans who live in human houses, taking what they eat and the things they use for themselves. Arrietty and Homily, since they are female, are forced to stay down, under the floorboards of their house, living a "nice and cozy" life. But it's boring, especially if you're a child. There's a human boy up there - in the house- and Arrietty really is desperate for a friend...

The One and Only Ivan #1 - Katherine Applegate

This stirring and unforgettable novel from renowned author Katherine Applegate celebrates the transformative power of unexpected friendships. Inspired by the true story of a captive gorilla known as Ivan, this illustrated novel is told from the point of view of Ivan himself. Having spent 27 years behind the glass walls of his enclosure in a shopping mall, Ivan has grown accustomed to humans watching him. He hardly ever thinks about his life in the jungle. Instead, Ivan occupies himself with television, his friends Stella and Bob, and painting. But when he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from the wild, he is forced to see their home, and his art, through new eyes.

Winterhouse #1- Ben Guterson

Image
A lavish hotel with chandeliers, a lake for ice-skating, snow-covered hills for skiing, a candy kitchen, and a library complete with a librarian—who wouldn’t want to stay at Winterhouse for the Christmas season?
