Unnaturals #2: Escape From Lion's Head - Devon Hughes

K0-7M0 has never had a name. Or anything you could call a life, for that matter. She lives in the humans' research facilities, all alone, until a new animal comes in. He's a dog, talkative, and very whiny. But Kozmo, as he named her, and the new dog help each other escape.
In the not-so-wonderful world outside the facility, Kozmo meets a bunch of hybrids like her. Their leader, Castor, a feisty eagle-dog. But within the blink of an eye, they're being chased. So Kozmo has to do something she's never dreamed of doing before: trust the others.

Unnaturals #2: Escape From Lion's Head - Devon Hughes

MY THOUGHTS ON IT:

        NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Yes, that's right. The series ends at book 2. I wanted to cry. It was so good! The plot, the characters, the idea. Devon Hughes did a good job coming up with this book. I was so so so sad to see all the characters go. They were all so different and so powerful and so moving.
So Kozmo, a fox-bat combination, has lived her whole life in the humans' research facility. She was experimented on, but she escaped and now she lives in the rafters. She's very observant and makes sure that the humans don't see her, that is until Runt comes. (OH YEY. ANOTHER SPOILER. Sorry!) She gets captured in order to save him.
Later Kozmo, Runt, and Flicker meet up with Castor, Jazlyn, and Enza, woohoo. Basically, Castor and Kozmo get into a huge fight, in which I get slightly mad at Kozmo for being a bit stoopy for not seeing that Castor's the good guy.
BUT ANYWAY Kozmo and Castor later become friends. (Aww so cute ship them ♥♥) All 6 of them are going on a journey to the Greenplains, away from pollutants and chemicals and humans.
That's beside the point. The point is, these characters are the BOMB. Amazing. Wonderful. Mwah. I hated to see them go. Devon could've taken farther, but I understand that she wanted to stop at two books. It's really hard to write one and to make the next one just as good as the first is an even more daunting task.
I suggest you read Unnaturals! It's a really good book about mutants and who knew I'd like a dystopian sci-fi book this much?

WHERE YOU CAN GET IT:

MY FAVORITE PART:

ATTENTION! DO NOT READ THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE FINISHED THE END OF Unnaturals 2, Escape From Lion's Head. THIS IS A HUGE SPOILER, AND YOU WILL DEFINITELY REGRET READING the spoiler. You've been warned.
My Favorite part is absolutely the part where they defeat the scientists and duplicate Laringos in the lab in the Greenplains and get Enza Jazlyn and Samken back. Super Good!
Not spoiler part: I also am in love with the part where Kozmo and Castor warm up to each other. It's super sweet and the beginning of a friendship! (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)

RATING:

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars, mainly because it ended so abruptly. I think it could've kept ongoing. That would have satisfied my mutant hunger. It also deserves 4.5 stars because the characters had really good character arcs and became really good mutants in the end. Or, good people, if you're counting Marcus and the other humans.
