The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel #1: The Alchemyst - Michael Scott

The truth: Nicholas Flamel's tomb is empty.

The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives.

Nicholas Flamel is the greatest Alchemyst to ever live. The records show that he died in 1418, but what if he's actually been making the elixir of life for centuries?
The secrets to eternal life are hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed, and in the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it.
There is one hope. If the prophecy is true, Sophie and Josh Newman have the power to save everyone. Now they just have to learn to use it.

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel #1: The Alchemyst - Michael Scott

What I thought of it:

The Alchemyst is a great book because it dives straight into the action (even when there are still mysteries that surround the whole thing), and I love the evilness of the characters. I also love the fact that it's based on mythology. If you read the author's note, there's a little section that tells you which characters were actually real and which ones were Micheal Scott's characters.
Down below, I have copied and pasted an essay I wrote a little while back on why the book series was my favorite. That's not the same right now*. Read on!
The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel is my favorite book series because there is magic and sorcery in the book, there is time traveling, leygates, Shadowrealms, and it’s a series!
One of my favorite parts of the book is magic and sorcery. Characters use their auras to do magic. They can use their auras to call upon the four magics which are Earth, Fire, Water and Air. For example, Sophie, a character from the series, has learned Air magic and can call upon it to create tornados, fog, and even freezing wind. Characters don't just have to use the four magics, though. An example is when one of the characters uses their imagination and aura to create animals that attack their enemy. Magic makes the book more suspenseful because it is only limited by your imagination, whereas if you were fighting with weapons you were limited by what you had with you.
Characters have the power to use leygates, create Shadowrealms, and time travel. Leygates look like mirrors that transport characters to other places where another leygate lies. When you use a leygate, you are traveling on a leyline which takes you to the place you want to be. Shadowrealms are created by the character’s imagination, and can be nothing like the surrounding area. Shadowrealms are like invisible domes that can be entered easily, almost like a bubble that doesn't pop. Some Shadowrealms are guarded, since the creator doesn't want intruders coming inside. Characters can time travel by taking an object from the time they want to travel to and putting it on the leygate. For example, if you were standing on a leygate that had dinosaur bones on it, you’d go to the Jurassic period, but you’d also go to the place that the leygate was going to take you. So, if you were going to arrive in Japan, you’d be in Japan during the Jurassic period.

Another reason The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel books are my favorite is because they are a series. If you really like the first book, you will most likely want to read the second. It's not enjoyable to have a book that doesn't continue. It's nice to know that the book will continue, so you have something to look forward to.

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel is a great book to read if you like Shadowrealms, time-traveling, teleporting, magic, sorcery, and books in a series!
